NATASHA VIOSNA MOODY

 17th OCT - 1st NOV 2024

PREVIEW: 16th OCT 6-9pm

The Living Light of Other Worlds is a solo exhibition of new work by British/Polish artist Natasha Viosna Moody. Showcasing sculptural installation and photography, Seager is transformed into a working alchemical laboratory, one for processing ecological grief, the transformation of our individual immaterial worlds and for conjuring the “Ghostwood” of South East London.

New sculptural installations explore the materialism of the alchemical process, foregrounding the transformation of plant matter as a medium with which to sense the more-than-visible world and our immediate, intimate, ecologies. Using glass, metal and foraged vegetal matter the artist takes cues from traditional medicinal herbal practices, herbarium archives, and esoteric histories to speak to the preservation and transformation of materials, landscapes, bodies and souls within the context of global ecological crisis. Esoteric histories, eastern european folklore, and plant symbolism are woven together to conjure stories of seasonless times.

The new art works on show are made with generous support of the inaugural RENSEP Artist Award 2024 and Arts University Plymouth, granted to the artist for her ongoing project, Ghosts of the Great North Wood: Alchemising Ecological Grief. This project explores the intersection of ecology and esotericism through the overlapping lenses of alchemy, mysticism, speculative cosmologies and divination.

Natasha Viosna Moody is a British/Polish artist based in South East London, working across sculpture, installation, photography and writing. Her research and practice explore the intersection of art, ecology and the esoteric, inviting viewers into a realm where plant material becomes a conduit for ecological reflections and mystical encounters. Her fascination with the intertwined histories of occulture, art and science materialises as an alchemical practice where both internal worlds and external materials are transmuted.

She completed the MA in Art and Ecology from Goldsmiths in 2022 and MA (hons.) Fine Art and Art History from The University of Edinburgh in 2020. She is the first recipient of the Research Network for Esoteric Practice’s Artist Award 2024. Recent exhibitions include Ostara - Electro Studios Project Space (2024), The stillness of the departing light, Anglican Chapel, Nunhead Art trail (2023), A Place Where Spirits Collide, Asylum Chapel, Maverick Projects (2023), Agnes Denes x MA Art and Ecology, CIRCA, Piccadilly Lights (2022), Trapped Heat, Blocked Magic, Fungus Press Residency, Turf Projects, Croydon (2021).
