Wall based glass sculpture 47 x 40 x 0.7 cm glass, mugwort sprigs, bramble shoots, St. John’s wort flowers
A series of wall-based sculptures that encase the ashes of incinerated plants. Each piece is a unique assemblage of foraged plants entrapped between glass sheets and fired in a kiln. The process is unpredictable, and the artist has little control over the final outcome. Soot, ashes, carbon dioxide and other by-products of the combustion are trapped between the fused panels creating tablets that echo the processes of Spagyria the alchemical treatment of plants to make medicines.
